Celebrating African CultureAfrican Partnership Sunday was a tremendous success and a time of fun and fellowship for all!
The Scouts at St. James Serve Great FoodBoy Scouts at St. James served dinner last Friday night as part of our Great Foods program. They did an amazing job! This Sunday in Great MusicThanksgiving at our Soup KitchenIt's so hard to believe, but Thanksgiving is right around the corner! And as many of you know, our Great Food program always puts on a full-on banquet the day after Thanksgiving complete with turkey, sides, pies, and so much more. The second way you can support us is by making a donation to our Great Food program. This will help offset the cost of this special feast for our friends in need. St. James Men's RetreatThe Men's Group is excited to announce that their annual retreat will be Friday, November 17th - Saturday, November 18. The retreat will start with an evening of fellowship dinner at Ken Robbins's house. Then, on Saturday morning, we will meet at the Cathedral Center from 9AM - 3PM for a retreat led by Father Jon. New members are always welcome! To register, please contact Ken at Ken.Robbins@raymondjames.com. Midweek Online ServiceAre you looking for a short midweek service? St. James offers an online Morning Prayer service on Wednesday mornings, from 8:30-9. Morning Prayer is an ancient service, derived from those in monasteries and convents, adapted by the brilliant Reformation liturgist, Archbishop Thomas Cranmer, who drew on Old and New Testament scriptures and prayers to create a service that is both simple and profound. It is especially suitable for our on-line service because it requires no clergy (though we often have clergy participate). We parcel out various readings to members of the on-line “congregation.” If this sounds appealing and you’d like to try it out, drop a note with your email address to Steve Yeazell (yeazell@law.ucla.edu) or Lauren Azeltine (lazeltine@stjla.org)., We’d be happy to welcome you. Latest on Your PledgesWe are nearing our goal of $885,527. Last year, 200 people pledged for a total of $885,527. This year so far, 124 people have pledged $829,295 . We need to hear from our 76 remaining pledgers to raise an additional $56,232 Please do your part!
Baptisms in NovemberWe would love for you to consider baptism! The next date available is November 12. See Kate+ or Jon+ for more information. |
