Blessing of the Animals Sunday

Our pews filled with furry friends and their devoted companions this past Sunday for our annual Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, a day where all of our beloved pets came to church along with us! Check out the photo gallery below.

Celebrate African Culture This Sunday

Join us this Sunday for African Partnership Sunday, celebrating traditional food, drinks, cultural dance, fashion show, raffle, American Auction, and music. A special service begins at 10:30am and follows with festivities.

New Season for Great Music

We welcome you to the 2023-24 Season featuring Classical Sundays at Six, the International Laureates Organ Series and Solemn Evensongs. We begin this Sunday on Oct 8th with Solemn Evensong at 4:15 PM. (Please note that Evensongs and Organ Recitals are now presented on various dates and no longer exclusively on the 2nd Sundays of the month.)

Then on Oct. 15 our Classical Sundays at Six presents flutist Martin Glicklich and friends and on Oct. 22, LA Phil’s former Principal Clarinetist Michele Zukovsky with the Capitol Ensemble.

Oct. 29 launches our Organ Series with the young virtuosos Thomas Ospital who has succeeded the legendary Jean Gillou as Titulaire Organist of the grand organ of Saint-Eustache in Paris.

Please join us and be sure to visit GreatMusicLA.org for up-to-date information. (All events are free).

Midweek Online Service

Are you looking for a short midweek service? St. James offers an online Morning Prayer service on Wednesday mornings, from 8:30-9.

Morning Prayer is an ancient service, derived from those in monasteries and convents, adapted by the brilliant Reformation liturgist, Archbishop Thomas Cranmer, who drew on Old and New Testament scriptures and prayers to create a service that is both simple and profound. It is especially suitable for our on-line service because it requires no clergy (though we often have clergy participate). We parcel out various readings to members of the on-line “congregation.”

If this sounds appealing and you’d like to try it out, drop a note with your email address to Steve Yeazell (yeazell@law.ucla.edu) or Lauren Azeltine (lazeltine@stjla.org)., We’d be happy to welcome you.

Stewardship Update

Stewardship is when someone who attends a church donates to help that faith community thrive. At the heart of giving is the sense that our lives are changing for the better and we want to be part of God’s plan in this place and time.

Next week here at St. James we begin our budgeting process for 2024 and we are still looking for almost half of you to send in your pledge or pledge online.

Last year, 200 people pledged for a total of $885,527.

This year so far, 112 people have pledged $610,335 .

As you can see, we need at least another $275,192 to keep up with our expenses and commitments.

Please pledge!

Church School Returns on Sundays

We are happy to announce that the church school season begins this Sunday, October 8. Just bring your child or children to the parish hall, fill out a form with your details, and the class will join us in church when it is time for communion. In the meantime, they will enjoy a Bible lesson, activity, and snack. It will be a fun year! And we would love more parent helpers for this entirely parent-run offering.

Baptisms in November

We would love for you to consider baptism! The next date available is November 12. See Kate+ or Jon+ for more information.
